international architecture firm tange associates have sent us images of their development tower in the yongsan international business district (YIBD),
seoul, korea. 'YIBD block C1-20' is a mixed-use building situated at the very center of the sector, mediating between the 'retail valley'
and the surrounding office buildings. set as an urban anchor for the area, it will demarcate a path from the han river to yongsan station
through its adjacent public spaces.
the structure has a gross area of 58 400 m2, stands 165 meters in height, with 25 floors that combine spaces for learning, creating and communicating.
the building hosts a diverse program with educational institutions, a synergy floor for events and exhibitions, a three-storey fitness center,
various regional headquarters for international companies, rooms for private clinics and a roof top restaurant with open terraces.
exterior facade
the architecture represents a metaphorical expression of the dynamic energy created by the retail valley and the building's own distinct objective.
the multi-faceted frame of the facade embraces the structure's aluminum-glass skin that moves in an upward-spiraling motion.
during the evening, the exterior turns into a giant media wall displaying digital artwork creating a sense of identity to the entire district.
